The hope of a good harvest

I am staying with some of our farmer friends in central Illinois. They planted the last 2 weeks in dry conditions. Last night it rained. This morning I could sense their excitement and relief when they saw the green rows of little corn leaves pushing through the soil. I know they will be more excited when they actually harvest the corn, but this gives them hope.

We are striving to disciple believers around the world. It is exciting to hear stories of when groups of people start to understand the gospel. It is like small green plants starting to grow. It is more exciting when after months and years they are still excited to follow Christ and are pouring their lives into making more disciples.

Isaiah 58:11 says of God’s followers who are serving him by serving others:

and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters do not fail.
