Public Bible Speaking for a Grade

All Cru staff are required to take basic Bible classes to help them in their ministries. In June and July, I took 4 weeks of classes where we studied how to interpret and communicate the Bible to a group of people.  Every day we started in a lecture hall with over 100 students then moved into workshop groups of 10 students plus our coach.

All Scripture contains elements showing our Fallen Condition” (sinfulness, brokenness) and points to a “Redemptive Solution” (needing someone else to redeem our sins before God.) The culmination was preparing and delivering a 20-minute talk that would be useful to a specific audience. It would be called a sermon if we gave it in a church.  When it came time to give the talks for a grade, the 10 of us were a very gracious audience for each other.

Public speaking is not one of my strengths! I do speak in public sometimes, so it was good practice. I have a talk ready when I need to give one in the future. David_preaching_medHere is a picture of me giving my “sermon” on 2 Samuel 9.  I got a gracious B+ and may have won the “most improved” award if they gave one.  If you want to hear the first five minutes, click on the YouTube link.
