Have you ever had a “coach?” The knowledgeable person at the gym who tells you to lift more weights is good, but the coach I am talking about does more listening than talking. This coach asks you questions about your work or life situation and then helps you formulate a plan to get to the next step.

Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC), as part of a strategy to train new leaders, has adopted methods from The Coach Model for Christian Leaders by Keith E. Webb. In the book, Keith says:
“Coaching is an ongoing intentional conversation that empowers a person or group to fully live out God’s calling.”
It takes training and practice to be a good “Coach Model” coach. I was coached with this method in a training program for several years. Then in 2024, I joined another program called GOLD where I was coached and practiced coaching to try to help others. I am about to enter another training program where I receive coaching. It has helped me to think more like a leader and help others work through barriers to success.
CCC ministries in developing countries are using the Coach Model for their ministry leaders, many of whom are relatively young.
